You can download packages from the debian site at the url he mentioned. However, for Openoffice you need lots more packages than just openoffice.org-common. I hope you realise that. There are about 15 packages (or more) of openoffice that you'll need and they are rather big. If you don't have a fast network connection your best bet may be to purchase a CD for openopenoffice. You can find non-ripoffs here: http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/ You can then deal with the openoffice dependencies by getting them from the debian site. Go here: http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages#search_packages and type in the name of the package and the distribution you're using (stable, testing, etc). Once you've found the package page for your distro, scroll down to the table labelled Download <package name> and click on the appropriate architecture for your system.
