My daughter has a new computer at college and I couldn't afford to buy MS
Office for her so I told her to download your office suite. She emailed me
her first document as an attachment to read and it will not open in MS word
(which I have on my computer). Is there anyway to read this?
Hello Donna.
You have a couple of choices (I am assuming you are using some version
of Microsoft Windows).
1. If you are using MS Office, you can download and install the ODF
plugin for MS Office: http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin/
This will allow you to open ODF files in MS Office.
2. You can also install OpenOffice.
3. You can ask your daughter to save all her documents in MS Office
format instead of the ISO standard ODF format. This is done with File
Save As, and it can also be set to the default save format for OpenOffice.
To set MS Office format as the default, your daughter needs to go to:
Tools > Options > Load/Save > General > Default file format and set the
Always save as option for each Document type to Microsoft Office formats.
