I think it depends on the CPU speed. For instance, I just received a "recycle bin" box from a local school. Apparently they decided it was trash because it only has 256Mb of memory in it. Turns out that the box has a 2.4G processor, 256Mb ram, 80G hard drive, Intel D865GBF motherboard, and slots for up to 4G of ram memory. Amazing... Anyway, it's working just fine right now as I type with Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty), and the official OOo 2.2.1 + the latest development version of OOo 2.3. I'll add more ram as I get the $$, but I've tried xubuntu and didn't like it. You just need to trim & tune the gnome. Added note: the computer that I just retired was 450Mhz/256Mb (and then only added 384Mb of ram last month) and it ran just fine for over 6 years. I only retired that 450Mhz (last week) because I found a 1.6G/512M/80G in the same recycle bin. The 1.6G is also now running just fine on Ubuntu 7.04 with the same drives as the 450Mhz. *Anything* that is running with less than 256Mb of ram (IMO) would be better off running Win95 & (legal of course) of MS Office 97. OOo simply will not be a good experience on anything less than 256Mb of ram, regardless of the CPU speed - I've already tried. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
