[users] Scanner options in OO only 2 dpi settings

I am  a recent convert to Mac computers buying an iMac intel.  I have  
a Canon N650U scanner that I managed to get going using a Plustec  
driver and Mac Image Capture.  With this combo I have a range of  
resolution settings but in OO word processor I get just 50 or 1200,  
neither of which I want to use regularly.  What can I do to improve  
this?
