Was the first column formatted as text and subsequent columns formatted
as number before you entered anything? A leading apostrophe (single
quote) will overwrite cell formatting and force a string entry.

Thanks again. I think I figured out what it was. Looking again at
the first entry in the first column, it had somehow gotten an
apostrophe entered right before the numerical data entry. This was
true in all my columns (but only the left of the two columns, or the
x-values) for all my data sets. Once I removed the apostrophe, all was
fine.
How did the apostrophe get there? And on every first-row, left column
data item. Any thoughts about that?

Thanks for both suggestions about the first row label idea. I've
tried it both ways, with the check box ticked and without; nothing
seems to work.

I'm having a problem with plotting a set of data. I've got two
columns.
The first data point (topmost row) won't print in the chart. I've
checked
the data range and its fine. All the other data points plot
correctly.
This happens on every chart.
Any thoughts?
Do you have 'first row as label' ticked when you create the chart?
If so, untick it.
