When I realized that there was an update for OpenOffice 2.1, I went for it, but found I was beginning to download the entirety of 2.2.1. This is not the end of the world, but as I am working with dial-up, it is a major chore.

I am a novice, so it would not surprise me to be told I was missing an obvious button; nor would I be surprised to be told that the changes between 2.1 and 2.2.1 are more than a mere patch, and that it is necessary to start over.

If it is necessary to start over, is it simplest to erase my first OpenOffice first, or can the new group of files simply overlay the originals? I am particularly wondering how to avoid needing to download dictionaries again and again—a hypothetical question at this point, I have none on board.

As I said, I am a novice, so any help will be welcome, but if I would more usefully be on another site, tell me.

Thankyou

Brant

As others have said, you need to download the whole thing. However, if you are on a slow (and possibly expensive and/or unreliable) internet connection you may want to consider one of the following alternatives:

a) Buy the software on CD. There's a (non exhaustive) list of suppliers at http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/index.html#cdrom Please note that we make no recommendations about any of these suppliers, nor do we give any guarantees. Most suppliers will only charge a nominal amount to cover th cost of producing the CD plus P&P. Expect to pay not much more than USD10.00

b) Many computer magazines come with CDs or DVDs with OpenOffice on them. Just make sure to pick a magazine that is compatible with your Operating System and whose CD/DVD has on it the version of OO you want.
