Firstly, thank you for the responses. I decided to take some advise and
download the package again. This time it went to download, not /tmp. This
time also, I cp'd the file instead of mving it. It copied with the .gz. It
untarred ok, but when I ran the rpm command, I got the following:
error: Failed dependencies:
java-1.4.2-sun = 1.4.2.13-0.1 is needed by (installed)
java-1_4_2-sun-plugin-1.4.2.13-0.1
libjawt.so is needed by (installed) OpenOffice_org1-1.1.3-4.10
libjawt.so is needed by (installed) OpenOffice_org-2.0.0-1.7
linux:/home/john/rpms/OOG680_m5_native_packed-1_en-US.9221/RPMS #
I made sure that I downloaded the copy with the JRE box checked (default), and
the "wJRE" in the file name. Also I currently use OOo 2.1, including
attempts to use base (java required), with you "no java" errors.
I think that this type of problem is going to be what slows the growth of
Linux on the desktop. I don't have this problem installing Foxpro/DOS,
WordStar/DOS, etc.
Using the kde file search, I found java-1.4.2 in various files.
