You can go to View > Toolbars and add the Drawing toolbar. It has line,
rectangle, freeform line and ellipse tools. Once the line is in the
document you can right click on it and get many choices of styles and
formats.
Is that something nobody else has?
I wouldn't have thought a ruler was anything but the ruler with the tabs
on it.
