OpenOffice can save in Word format. When she uses "Save as", she has to
select Word format, from the drop down list. It is also possible to set
Word format as the default format. However, have you considered working
with the ISO standard ODT file format that's the default for
OpenOffice? You can download OpenOffice for free from
www.openoffice.org or you can install the Sun plugin, available from
http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin, which will enable
OpenDocument support in Microsoft Office. Either way, you can avoid
Microsoft "lock in". Many companies support the ISO standard ODF file
formats, but Microsoft refuses, as it prevents people from being captive
users.
