Sajid, as others have already explained, it is perfectly safe, both legally and technically, to use OpenOffice. I would just like to add another bit of advice: unless you are explicitly forced to do otherwise, remember to use OpenOffice in the right way, that is never distribute or accept documents in the proprietary Microsoft formats. Even if OpenOffice has a good degree of compatibility with them. Use and require the OpenDocument format instead, to make sure that the documents you create, or the ones you receive, are in a format that guarantees that you will remain able over time to access or share them with others.
