At the risk of further extended this horrible thread, it's because you seem to 
refuse to listen to what many others have been telling you, and this thread 
has become interminable. This listserve does not require that posters be 
subscribed. It's a deliberate decision to do so, and to require people to do 
so simply wouldn't allow as many people (especially clueless newbies) to be 
helped.

Newsgroups, by definition, don't requre subscriptions. All they require is 
that you connect, somewhere in the world, to a news server carrying that 
particular newsgroup.

It seems to have everything to do with your complaints, though, which are all 
about what happens when you use a newsgroup server to read an email list.
