Hello Mike,

Take a look at the Mac porting pages of OpenOffice.org:
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac

OpenOffice.org doesn't yet run natively on Mac. You need to install X11.
Read the How To files on these pages.
There are different versions of X11 for a Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.x) and
Panther (10.3.x)
There are different versions of OOo for Mac PPCs and Mac Intels
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/x11.html

A native Aqua version of OpenOffice.org is being developed and a
stable version will be available in the next few months. You can
already try out a version of Aqua (but don't use it yet for important
work, and save regularly -as you always should):

Good luck
