That may be a bug in your video driver or something like that as well.  Does
anything else crash other than OpenOffice?

I assume from your kernel version that you are using Fedora Core 5.  That is
quite old and out-of-date now; in fact it became officially unsupported a few
months back.  You may want to update to Fedora 7, or if you really like Fedora
Core , try Centos 5 which as a much longer life cycle than the Fedora series.

As a direct possible solution to your problem, you might want to try updating
OpenOffice to version 2.3, which is the current version.
