Additionally, select |View|Status Bar and make sure that Status Bar is
checked. This will place an informational status bar at the bottom of
your document. Then when you click the "INS" key, you will see that the
box just to the right of the percentage will toggle between "INSRT" and
"OVER". This tells you when you are in the 'over type' mode vs the
'insert' mode.
