I can say for me working on both Linux and Windows that 2.3 > can open 2.2.1 odt's just fine. That's the beauty of standards.
Testing with some other .odt files....... doesn't work. What attracts attention is that the filter dialogue does contain only three(!) filter entries, none of which is an owriter format.
