Thanks for responding and thanks for the help. Downloading and running the Windows Clean Up Utility did the trick. Everything went fine after that. Thanks for you support of a fine product. Chuck Hall Bozeman, Mt USA

I attempted to install it but I got an error message and I could not continue. I tried serching my computer for the file but it could not be found. I tried to uninstall version 2.1 through the Windows uninstall programs program but it said the same thing about not finding that file. I am at a loss for what to do. I am running Windows XP all up to date on a Dell Desktop 1.5g system. Thanks for any help. Chuck First, try quitting the Quickstarter. If it's running there will be an icon for it in the System Tray - grey/blue with two flying birds pictured; *right* click on it and choose Exit. Now try the Add/Remove again and if it succeeds, install the new version. Otherwise carefully read and follow the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 The Add/Remove should now work, as should the installation of the new version. If the Add/Remove is OK but the installation still fails then it's most likely your Antivirus (AV) and/or Firewall (FW) software believing the install program is a virus; that's a common problem, not unique at all to OO. To overcome it: 1. Disconnect your system completely from the internet 2. Turn off the AV and FW software. 3. Run the installation process. 4. Restart your AV and FW software. 5. Re-connect to the net; *never* leave your system connected if your AV and FW software are not both running properly. If you still can't install the new version you might come back here for more help but I think it'll be hard for us to diagnose your problem remotely. Better would be to try and find a local Windows guru; preferably free but ... Please note that I firmly do *not* believe this is an OpenOffice problem. Instead I'm 99.999% sure it's a Windows problem. That's why I said "a Windows guru" ... Oh, please keep careful notes of what you do and especially the exact text of any error messages you get so that if you need to consult further at least we/they will know where they are starting from. -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected]
