I use italics very frequently in my work so that paragraphs of text can have
sections of italics interspersed with normal font.
I found that OO2.3 is very erratic in its use of the italic button on the menu
bar, as well as the use of CRTL-i as a shortcut. Sometimes the italics will
come "on" when you select the button, but will not then go off when you
deselect... For instance if I type:
Ramaria xanthosperma var. australiana and use the italics button so that the
first two words are italicised, the 'var' is in normal font and then
australiana is italicised, the italic button will refuse to turn 'off' at
all......and the only way I can achieve this is to remove all italics,
italicise the whole lot, then select and remove italics from the
var.......very, very clumsy.
In any event, I have removed OO2.3 and returned to OO2.2.1 in which the italic
controls are perfect and italics can be turned on or off at any point in the
text.
