That is a common problem with OOo - it doesn't reset the desktop icons when you update. Delete the icons and create new ones & they should work. If on windows: Start|Programs|OpenOffice.org 2.3| then right-click on each program (Base etc) & select "Send To", click on "Desktop (create shortcut)".
