Melvin,

This is a mailing list which exists to support users of OpenOffice.org
All answers are given by other users who volunteer their time. Your post
and all information are publicly posted, so please refrain from posting
any personal information that you do not wish to be public on the internet.

To answer your question(s).

1. OpenOffice is a free software suite which is compatible to Microsoft
Office. You can download it directly from: http://www.openoffice.org/

2. You didn't buy a disk from anyone on this mailing list, or
OpenOffice.org. Please contact whoever sold you the disk and ask them
for support. If you can advise as to who you bought the disk from, then
perhaps some of the folks here can help steer you in the right direction
on getting help from whoever you purchased it from.

3. Simply because the software is free doesn't necessarily mean that you
got a bad deal by buying it on CD from someone. The program is rather
large and many folks on dialup connections would rather purchase or
receive a CD from someone instead of spending 6-10 hours downloading
over a slow dialup line. Was this your case?

So, now a few questions & guesses:

- What operating system are you using? OpenOffice can run on Windows,
MAC, Linux, and Solaris operating systems, so it's helpful if you let
folks know what you are using.

- Who did you buy the software from? Do they have a website & if so can
you provide a link?

- How did you get the information to post on this users list? Was it a
link from http://openoffice.org, or did whoever you bought the CD from
just tell you to post here for support?
Note: this is an important one, so please be sure to let us know.

- You say that you have 6 or 7 icons, do they look anything like the
icons provided here: http://www.openoffice.org/ - the one's on the right
underneath "OpenOffice.org 2 Components:"? If so, then hopefully when
you click on them you will open an OpenOffice program & welcome to
OpenOffice (OOo) :-).

A good place to get started with OOo is to first review

then

You are not subscribed to this mailing list so you may not see all the
replies to your query. Please reply to [email protected] only,
messages sent back to my email address will be ignored. See
