So 'primitive' is due to the fact that you can't find where to change the
colour?  Colours can be changed... Have a look at tools > options >
OpenOffice.org Writer > changes ... You can set a variety of options for
different activites.

If there are other things that you find different, send them through and
someone on the will attempt to assist.
