OpenOffice runs on an impressive collection of operating systems. The flip-side of this is that they've had to abstract things like the GUI toolkit somewhat, so you'll probably always be at a disadvantage to a Windows-only app, and in particular a Windows-only app written by Microsoft. Having said that, I agree that there is considerable room for improvement in OO's resource usage. I abandoned using OO Base and wrote my own database subsystem ( available at http://entropy.homelinux.org/axis ), partly because of OO bloat ( I tried a number of solutions, but none of them really cut it ). Unfortunately OO's legacy dictates quite a large memory footprint, and I think the focus has mainly been on adding new features. With PCs and memory cheap, you can forgive people for this focus. Keep in mind that users of older computers wouldn't want to run OOo on Vista - they'd run it on a Linux desktop with a lightweight window manager, which would probably make your overall resource consumption better than Vista & Office, and you could do this for free. -- Daniel Kasak IT Developer NUS Consulting Group Level 5, 77 Pacific Highway North Sydney, NSW, Australia 2060 T: (+61) 2 9922-7676 / F: (+61) 2 9922 7989 email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] website: http://www.nusconsulting.com.au --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
