For most cases, you don't need Java. The database ( Base ) module relies
heavily on Java, but the spreadsheet ( Calc ) module doesn't. 256MB is
really the minimum memory for running Windows 2000. I'd give them each
another 256MB at *least*. As for OO being slower than Excel, are you
talking about the time to load a document, or processing speed once a
spreadsheet is open? You can try converting files to ODS format, and
they might open faster.
