Thanks for the previous, which I repeat:

2007/10/11, William Piez <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Installed OO and it worked beautifully, but the next day it opened OK
but text, as in menus, was mostly vertical lines or blank and
unreadable. Help!

Hello Bill

Seeing your mailadres, I presume you installed OOo on a Mac.
That is to say: did you really install it, or just ran it after
unpacking? (you should drag the OOo logo to your Applications folder
to complete installation)
Please read the install How-To at http://porting.openoffice.org/mac.

Otherwise: tell us what computer and version of Mac OS you have, what
version of OOo you downloaded -the version with X11 or the beta Aqua
version- (and from where).

END REPEAT

I am operating OOo 2.3 on a MAC G-5 PPC (not Intell) I have MAC OS X10.4 Tiger. I downloaded using X-11. You guessed right in that I had not moved OOo to the Applications folder. Did so, and problem persisted.

So I trashed OOo, and than created a new user in MAC Preferences. Then:
Restart in the new user
Download fresh OOo from internet.
Move new OOo to Applications folder which I had not done the first time, and Works fine, even after closing and reopening four times as new user. Upon first opening I selected to use the OOo fonts, not the Apple fonts I have. The tried another Restart in the old user name, and new OOo opens but the garbled fonts are back.

My conclusion: My first efforts left a bad file(s) available to the original user and I need to get rid of same. I know how to display the contents of OOo (lots of folder and files), but do not know which to get rid of, or even if I should tinker with the contents of the new OOo which works properly. Have looked in OOoSupport at Issues 4436 and 4468. These are interesting, but do not seem to apply to problems with OOo for Mac. A possible work around would be to open and use only new user, and eventually trash the original user.
