Hello,
I'm trying to install 2.3.0 using a very slow connection. The operation timed
out every time.
I would like to try the nearest mirror to see if I get better luck.
My main question is whether the file that I download this way will
automatically install itself and update the old existing one ( I would prefer
this to happen)
Is there a step for step guide to do this?
I am using windows XP- which version of the mirror should I use, the HTTP one
or the FTP one?
Thanks.

When you download the file, you'll have to double click on it to
install. Just follow the directions that will appear. It will replace
any 2.x version of OpenOffice, but not 1.x. HTTP & FTP refer only to
the download method and it makes no difference which one you use.
Hi Myles
Sounds as though you need to use a download manager, or use peer-to-peer
downloading, which will allow you to resume if the connection times
out. It can also be helpful to check the md5sum - see the link at top
right of this page
http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.0/index.html?focus=download
That will check that the file has not been corrupted during the download.
