I've been trying to get 2.3 up and running on freebsd, but am having a spot of bother with installing fonts. The OOo package is from good-day (ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/FreeBSD).
Firstly, as installed, there are some basic fonts (bitstream vera, courier, etc) which appear in bold in the fonts drop-down list, and seem to work. However, there are some listed in faint type too (Estrangelo Nisibin for example) that don't do anything useful, and don't seem (according to spadmin) to have corresponding font files. Can anyone let me know what these are please? (And how to get rid of them - there are quite a lot!) Worse though is that spadmin apparently installs fonts into the correct directory (although the file protection is too restrictive, I fixed this up manually) but nevertheless writer doesn't seem to offer the new fonts, even after exiting and restarting. There was one exception: at one point I had installed just two new fonts, which didn't appear. I installed a third new one, and the first two appeared in the drop-down list in writer (but not the third). However, on removing the fonts and trying the same again, no new fonts appeared at all. Wierd!!!!! The ttf font files do work fine on windows XP, btw. Does that make some sort of sense? And can anyone suggest anything obvious I've not done? I'm rather up the proverbial gumtree at present. BTW It's a fresh install of the OOo2.3 package on fbsd6.2; I had tried originally with 2.2, with the same effect.
