Theresa, • At the end of the Format toolbar (normally the second line of icons of your OpenOffice.org window, you'll see an A with a rectangle under it. The small triangle to the right of it opens the colour palette for the caracters you type. (also in Format > Character > Text Effects > Text Colour) • One more icon to the left is a paint can were you can choose the colour of the background of the text you type. (also in Format > Character > Background) • In Format > Page > Background, you can choose the background colour of the page • See also Fontworks (icon is a frame with an A on a yellow background in the Drawing toolbar. If the Drawing toolbar isn't visible, go to View > Toolbars and click on Drawing to activate the toolbar) to make all kinds of fancy coloured lettering (see Fontwork in the Help, use F1-key). There are also (coloured) borders for paragraphs, pages, tables, etc.).
