"I have installed *all* the files ..." sounds like you have done it wrong. The installation process is to *run* the *single* file you downloaded from www.openoffice.org The installation process is then automatic with you only having to answer a few questions. Go back to before you started (in Windows that would be to the "restore point " you created before embarking on the project) and start again; if you didn't create a restore point you'll just have to delete the files you "installed" and, if you are using Windows, use Add/Remove Programs to remove any related software you installed the "proper" way.
