Remembering that many authors choose to save in PDF format to prevent
people copying and re-editing their original work AND having duly
considered this and respected it. 

The method i'd use.

 - Copy from Acrobat Reader (if allowed by the author).
 - Paste to writer.
 - Inspect the formatting of the pasted text. You may need to alter tab
layout, paragraphs etc.
 - Use "Table - Convert - Text to Table" and action as required in the
dialogue box. 
 - Once happy with the layout of the text. Use "Table -
 - Select- Table" Copy
 - Paste to Calc.

Bit of mucking around, but it works.
