Michael, I tried to do it the way you've suggested. It didn't help. In detail:
I checked that page 1 has Default page style. I clicked in page 2. I selected Right Page from Styles (which I modified to include Footer an have 6cm spacing) OOo Writer applied Right Page to all pages of the document. Obviously I missed something.
