[users] Merging a graphic to an existing document

I am using open office 2.3.  I am having trouble putting a graphic/picture into 
a document.  Everytime I copy and paste either text to graphic or graphic to 
text, the text's format completely changes.  How can i place a graphic into a 
partiular spot in the text without the text breaking or changing?
