Is it possible to protect just one cell or a group of cells or

Yes, but you do it by protecting the sheet, in fact. In order to
protect any part of a sheet, you need to protect the sheet
itself. But that protects only those parts of the sheets that are
separately formatted as protected. By default, this is all cells,
but this can be modified.
To select some parts of a sheet:
o Click in the top left corner of the sheet to select it all (or use
Edit | Select All).
o Go to Format | Cells... | Cell Protection, and remove the tick
from Protected.
o Select in turn the parts you want protected, go back to Format |
Cells... | Cell Protection and insert the tick by Protected.
o Go to Tools | Protect Document > | Sheet... to protect the sheet.
I trust this helps.
