Thank you Brian for your help. I tried your procedure and this is what happend:
- Tools | Options... | OpenOffice.org Writer | Print | Other -> "Print automatically inserted blank pages": WAS ticked. I un-ticked it and OK the options - I open again the File->Export to PDF dialog from my master document and voila!: the box is greyed out disabled AND ticked by default! I thought there was some kind of inverse-connection between the Options->Print configuration and the checkbox in the export dialog, so I reversed my change at the Options->Print tickening it again, but the Export dialog checkbox remains disabled AND ticked.
kind of bizarre results, but hey, I've got what i wanted, thanks!!
(do you think it's a bug worthing a report?)

I'm using OOo 2.3 on Windows Vista Business to write a book with several chapters, and i'm using a master document which links all my chapter files. My problem is that when I try to export to PDF, the dialog doesn't allow to check the "print automatically inserted blank pages" checkbox, as it is disabled and unchecked by default.

I'm no expert in master documents, but I've experimented with this, and in my version (2.3 on Windows XP) the box is greyed out but ticked!

What is your default setting for this? Go to Tools | Options... | OpenOffice.org Writer | Print | Other. Is there a tick by "Print automatically inserted blank pages"? If not, and you tick this, does this change the unchangeable value in the Export as PDF dialogue?

I trust this helps.
