Bill, I agree that first impression is important to retaining new users. There are probably many things that would benefit by being designed for a less computer literate audience. And by less computer literate I don't necessarily mean less technology savvy. I have observed that quite a few people who use common technology tools today like MP3 players, multifunction/smart phones, etc. don't understand much about the technology they are using but are able to use it in quite surprising ways. I don't have any ideas to add to your proposition. I would suggest that if you wish to get some conversation going on the idea then move the discussion to the 'discuss' forum. That forum can be joined by sending an empty email to either of the following email addresses. [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] The first address is a 'normal' subscription. You will be forwarded copies of all emails received by the list. The second address sends a daily digest of messages received by the discuss list. The OpenOffice.org web pages states that the 'discuss' list is high volume and suggests subscribing to the digest.
