I took the advice of someone here and downloaded and installed the most
recent revision of the Xquartz binary, now up to build 1.2a6. It is
actually easy enough to do in a Terminal window by simply cutting and
pasting the commands from the relevant box at www.x.org/wiki/XDarwin.

OOo 2.3 now works beautifully (almost) under Mac OS X 10.5 for me. The
window repaints quickly on resizing and the menus open fast now, now
appearance of scrolling out slowly.

I still get the annoying "command timed out" message box that some have
reported if I open OOo "cold". I avoid this if I start X11 manually
first, then open OOo--I just keep two icons in my dock. Two clicks
instead of one, but it does save a few seconds. It is as though OOo has
trouble finding the X11 environment in a timely fashion if it is left to
open it itself.

On the whole, OOo for X11 seems for me to be getting back to its
pre-Leopard self. I may have to cool down my enthusiam for NeoOffice!

Jim,

OOo 2.3 works under Leopard. There is a problem with a time out on the launching of X-11, but a simple click on the OK button allows things to proceed normally from
there.

I have used open office on a PC but have just bought an imac with Leopard. Is there a current version of open office that will work on the new OS?
Thanks,
