In addition to the other suggestions, if you would like all your Writer documents saved in MS Word format without remembering to select Word format whenever you save a document... o Open Writer o select Tools|Options... from the menu o expand the Load/Save branch o select the General settings under Load/Save o in the 'Default file format' section o-- set Document type to 'Text document' o-- set Always save as to which ever MS Word file type is your preference, e.g., 'Microsoft Word 97/200/XP' Now whenever you save a new document you'll only need to name it and make sure the 'Automatic file name extension' box is checked in the Save dialog. Once the box is checked it will stay that way for all documents until you uncheck it. NOTE: If you save in MS Word format all the formating may not be saved. Don't know specifically what formating may be affected but you may see a warning to that effect.
