What instructions & two files are you referring to? Try this: rename your ~.openoffice.org2 directory to x-.openoffice.org2-x now try to restart (U)OOo[1]. If (U)OOo works it will create a new .openoffice.org2 in your home directory, then you had some corrupted data in your profile directory (.openoffice.org2). If (U)OOo still doesn't work then you may need to 'install --reinstall' (sudo apt-get install --reinstall openoffice*), or report it as a bug on Ubuntu launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openoffice/+bugs [1] (U)OOo = Ubuntu OOo. Ubuntu provides a modified version of the standard OOo package found on openoffice.org.
