Did you install OpenOffice? If so you will have been asked if you want
it to be the "default program" for handling xls documents. If you said
yes, just double click the attachment and OpenOffice will open it.
Otherwise save the attachment and *right* click it. Choose "Open with".
Either choose OpenOffice from the list of available programs or, if it's
not in the list, browse to "soffice.exe" in the directory where you
installed OpenOffice. (This assumes you are using Windows; if you
aren't, the procedure will be different and you will need to tell us
what you are using). Having selected OpenOffice you can, if you want,
check the "Always use this program for this file type" box after which
double clicking will suffice.
One other thing. You did *not* buy OpenOffice from us. In the first
place, OpenOffice, and all upgrades are free from www.openoffice.org and
in the second place "we" are a volunteer support group which doesn't
sell anything but which provides free support for OpenOffice. If you
paid money for OpenOffice (more than about USD 10) then please consult
the vendor for support, unless you paid merely a nominal amount for a CD
in order to avoid having to download it over a
slow/unreliable/expensive internet connection. We are happy to support
that type of sale. We are not happy to support other types.
