Note: I wrote "licenses and contracts".

Whilst licenses don't, as a general rule, prohibit co-existence of
other software, contracts related to the purchase and support of
hardware frequently do limit the co-existence of other software.

The license for at least one program from Microsoft prohibits the
installation and use of the specific product on any operating system
other than Windows X or Windows 200

I'll just point out that one of the requirements for a program to be
free for Debian Legal, is: "The license must not restrict anyone from
making use of the program in a specific field of endeavour;" I've
forgotten the program which generated that clause, but part of its
license prohibited the use of it by the military, or for a military
purpose.

_The Watch Tower Library_ license has a clause that prohibits it from
being used for research purposes by those who are not members in good
standing in their local Kingdom Hall.

Back around June 2007, Microsoft came up with a license that, on its
face, prohibits the installation of any software that is not developed
by Microsoft. Whilst that particular clause is overly broad, and
probably will be knocked out in a court, the cost of defending such a
lawsuit mitigates against defending a lawsuit with an abusive clause
written by a company whose business practices are abusive, and harmful
to everybody, when they are being benign.

that requires the use of software that is known to be flawed,
defective, bug-ridden, and fails to meet ISO file format standards.
