This may take awhile, it concerns Frames. I had a Microsoft Word doc and it
was full of Text Boxes (Frames). I turned it into a Oo doc. All the Frames
went kaflooy. Some had been pre-grouped in the Word document and some were not.
I decided to move everything to a new Oo document, because of the mess I had
created, and the fact that I could not regroup the Frames together that were
loose. I had about 11 or 12 pages all jammed up and since it was so crowded,
I needed space to work in. Thus a new Oo document.
I decided to use just one Frame for each Family Group (I am doing my
Genealogy) and put their information into them, because it was a problem
having to move about 200 plus frames one at a time - the loose ones, (the
pregrouped ones from word moved just fine).
Originally, I had stuck text boxes touching each other and they would have
been okay to print out, except I lost the (temporary) Microsoft Office, which
had been placed on my new computer before I bought it. I still had a lot to do
on my document when the program ceased. A friend told me about Openoffice and
I downloaded it.
The above is just a background. The ex-Word document caused no problems.
Only one Frame did and not one not from the ex-Word document. I had moved
about 30 or more Frames into the new doc. Then, I thought I would type some
information into a new frame in the new document. I had already typed
information into some of the Frames that had been moved into the new doc. No
problems.
A new Frame created in the new doc. I tried to type the information in the
way that all the other Frame's information was placed. It would not let me.
When I went to the next line it would not go down just one space, when I used
the Enter Key, it skipped. (It would not skip if I typed until it moved down
automatically at the edge of the Frame). Furthermore, I had a battle with the
Oo program trying to make some of my rows into numbered bullets when I hit the
Enter Key to move down. The bullet box kept popping up even though I clicked
it "off" each time. There was nothing that needed numbering. (The bullet box
did not do that to me with any of the other Frames I worked on).
So, I thought I would move that Frame into the other Oo doc (ex-Word). Guess
what! In the other doc, it was just the way I wanted it. Perfect. All the
rows in correct places, all lined up neatly.
So, I moved it back to the new Oo doc and guess what? It reverted to the way
it was before: the rows spread apart. I cut it out and pasted it back in the
old doc (ex-Word). Wallah, again it was exactly what I wanted. I tried the
switch back and forth between documents. It changed each time, both ways.
Now, here's the corker. In the old doc (ex-Word) I got a new Frame and typed
in the information. Now, remember this, no other Frame caused me any problems
moving it around. I copied the new Frame and pasted it into the new doc.
Guess what!!!???
This new Frame was exactly like the one before, with the rows all spread out
and the bullet box popping up!!!
