It already is.
The version that works with X11 on 10.4 (Tiger) also works with X11 on
10.5 (Leopard), though alas not as smoothly since there are problems
with the new X11.
I have grown increasingly concerned about the instability of th new X11,
so I must admit that I have "defected" to NeoOffice (www.neooffice.org),
which is a very nice port of OOo to the MacOS that is under continual
development. It is not perfect, and the developers warn us of that. It
is also NOT an official OpenOffice product, though thanks to the wonders
of open source software it looks and acts very much like OOo. I think we
diehard Mac types are looking forward to a proper version OOo that works
directly in the Mac OS, the so called Aqua version. There is a pretty
buggy alpha release to experiment with on the OOo website, but it isn't
stable enough yet to be depended on for serious work.
