Simon, I would say it is a X11 problem. I have the same problem with X11/Tiger. X11 should permit you to have full screen. You can set this in the X11 prefs: Preferences > Export > check Activate Full Screen Commando. You can then toggle between the full screen and the 'normal' screen (i.e. with Aqua background) with the keycombination Option-Command-A (on my Azerty keyboard that means Alt-Apple-Q). You have to go back to the A11 preferences to uncheck the full screen option (or continue toggling). The background you get isn't very nice, whte and black, but the idea is that you fill the screen with your presentation.
