I am using open Office 2.3 on a PC under Windows XP. Recently I

Two possibilities:
o You are not entering the formula quite correctly. For example, if
you put a leading space in your formula, so it reads " =SUM(Ai:Aj)"
instead of "=SUM(Ai:Aj)", it will be seen by Calc as a text string
rather than a formula.
o Go to Tools | Options... | OpenOffice.org Calc | View |
Display. Is Formulas ticked? If so, this tells Calc to show the
formula rather than the result, and is doing as it is asked. Remove the tick.
I trust this helps.
