Hi Klaus,

by default OOo doesn't use gtk when running on KDE. One has to set the
environment variable SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN to "gtk" to enforce this.

Great, thanks for this info! I wonder, why is this IMHO ver essential
information not present in the OO wiki? Well, it may not be ONLY
accessibility related, but once someone has searched for several days to
find out why OO starts with the at-spi bridge ONLY under gnome, while
firefox does this without setting any special variables, it would be a
great help if a small paragraph about this was added to the wiki at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Accessibility

In fact, I just took the freedom to do this. Hope this is OK with you.
:-)

As other GTK applications seem to work for you, you probably already have
the GTK_MODULES variable set to "gail:atk-bridge", but double-checking
doesn't hurt ;-).

Interestingly, this variable is not set for me by default, yet firefox
and most other gtk programs work fine with orca. This may be related to
the fact that I had set the "start ATK automatically" feature in the
gnome-control center, which also affects gconf, which seems to start
automatically when gnome-apps are started (even without gnome itself).

Using primarily KDE and other window managers with smaller memory
footprint, I',m not familiar with all gnome/gtk specialities
yet, but I'm trying to understand them one by one. ;-)

Regards & thanks for enlightening me
