You say "When I double click the icon, I see a bunch..." Sounds like that is not the program icon. Presuming you're using Windows XP check in the start menu in the All Programs list. Look for a folder called OpenOffice.org. Open that folder and you should see all your programs. Two other notes, you will not find excel in OpenOffice. There is a spreadsheet program called Calc however. And second, that icon that reveals a bunch of files after you double-click may be the temporary folder created after you ran the installation program. Delete it and then look for OpenOffice on your Start menu as described above. If you find OpenOffice on the menu but it doesn't run then go into your trash, undelete the folder, and try running OpenOffice from your start menu. If it starts this time then I would guess the default installation location was changed during the install process. In that case I would uninstall and then reinstall accepting the default locations.
