Were it me replying to what I said previously, I would have cut my message down
and presented your response as follows:

I disagree that bottom posting is "correct". It is merely a matter of 
preference, sometimes strong preference.....
And the rest of your response as you originally posted it.

See?  Cutting it that way retains the basic meaning, intent and focus of the
previous message without repeating the whole thing and wasting a lot
of everyone's time and bandwidth downloading redundant data.  Your reply would
be completely in context and understandable by everyone who reads the message
either in-line or individually.

A few moments of consideration given to how to edit someone's message to retain
the gist of what you're replying to also helps you to organize your thoughts and
insure that your reply covers the points that you intend it to cover, as well.
