I am using Open Office Org. version 2.3 (free version).

My problem is if I left click on a cell and then navigate using the up/down, left/right arrows on the key board. I get the numbers 2 or 6 or 8 being randomly dropped from time to time in cells. If I had information in that cell it is replaced with these numbers.

The separate pad to the right of your keyboard works in two modes. In one mode, four of the keys operate as arrow keys, and this is no doubt what you are trying to use. But in the other mode, it becomes a numeric pad, and produces the numbers shown on the keys instead. As you say, in this mode, the arrow keys produce the digits 2, 4, 6, and 8 instead.

To toggle between these modes, press the Num Lock key once. When the Num Lock light shows on your keyboard, it is in the wrong state to allow you to use these keys as arrow keys.

Most keyboards have separate arrow keys - not on the numeric pad - and these do not suffer from this problem.

I trust this helps.
