I too am also seeing slowness, "Command Timeouts", and sometimes

It seems to help to start X11 [/Applications/Utilities/X11] prior to starting OO.

I've also seen problems with terminating the OO process when
logging out. To log out I'll have to do a "Force Kill" of the
OO process before the log out process will continue.

Typically OO will want to save all open documents before it can exit. Are you seeing the save requestor? What happens when you manually quit OO, then log out??

From early posting, it seems implementation of X11 on 10.5 could
be the problem. Has anybody tried downgrading X11 to the 10.4 version?
If so, has it help? Also how would one do that (I'm new to the Mac OS
world)?

People who have downgraded to Tiger's X11 have reported no problems. This option is only available to who have access to the Tiger installer.

My daughter notice a difference between the Windows version
and the Mac OS version of OO. She was creating a background
file by cutting/pasting jpegs from Firefox (i.e. images.google.com)
into an empty OO window. She keep getting an "unknown font" error
(or something similar). Again, this did work seamlessly in Windows,
so is this a known problem? Could it be the same X11 problem or
do I have to install some font package?

If it is just a .jpeg being pasted, there would be no call for a font. Either some text is coming along for the ride, or i'm missing some information. If it happens again, please mark down the exact error message. Also, is she clicking and dragging from the FireFox window, or copying and pasting? As a way of narrowing down the source of the problem, it might be instructive to paste the same info in a TextEdit window. Vice versa, see if clipping the image from Safari makes a difference.
