If anyone can help me with this PLEASE DO!
I've updated to the new OpenOffice 2.3 but recently any saved files that I try to save in the Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP .doc format doesnt show the openoffice icon beside the file in the destination folder. When i double click it asks which program i'd like to use to open it.
Also when I try to send a file like this saved in the Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP .doc format the recipient gets a message saying it may not be safe or they can't read it
why is openoffice not working for me NOW?
I really like openoffice- alot- but this problem is really getting to me
Any suggestions
Please and Thank You
When you installed OpenOffice, you were given an option to have
OpenOffice be the default application for Microsoft Office files. You
apparently installed it, so that OpenOffice will be the default
application. There are two ways around this. You can right click on
the file and select the desired application or you can reset the file
associations, as described below. As for the 2nd question, OpenOffice
will give a warning is you are saving in other than the default format,
as not all features are supported in other formats. You can turn off
that warning or you can make Microsoft file formats the default for
saving.
Changing file associations
Right click on file icon
Select Open With > Choose Program...
Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and
choose the desired application.
If that method is not available, follow the directions listed here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307859
Changing default file type
1) Click on Tools > Options.
2) Click on the "+" beside Load/Save
3) Select General.
4) In the Default file format section, there will be a pair of drop down
lists, where you can match the document type with the file format.
Please respond only to the mail list ([email protected]) and not
directly to me.
