I want to download OpenOffice version 2.0 because my Micrososft Word in Windows Vista is locked. If I download OpenOffice, will all my Microsoft work be erased?
OpenOffice.org is an entirely different program form any Microsoft Office program and will not affect Microsoft Office in any way but one.
When you install OpenOffice.org, it will ask you if you want to make OpenOffice.org the default program for various Microsoft Office files. If you check the boxes, then .doc files and .xls files will appear with OpenOffice icons and clicking on them will cause them to load into OpenOffice.org. If you don't check them, then clicking on Microsoft files will cause them to attempt to use Microsoft Office to open them.
In either case, you can change these conventions after OpenOffice.org has been installed.
No Microsoft Office files will be erased in any case, either during installing or if you open a Microsoft file into OpenOffice.org. Some users run both OpenOffice.org and Microsoft Office on the same machine without either interfering with other in any way.
