Any clues?

Please give some examples of what you are trying to do. Calc supports searching (and replacing) using a restricted form of something known to computer scientists as Regular Expressions. A Regular Expression is a formal way of defining a text "pattern". You need to turn on this option under More Options>Regular Expressions in the Search & Replace pane. For more details see the Help under Regular Expressions. Google will probably give millions of references. Pretty much any decent book on Unix will have some sort of introductory explanation as will any book on the programming language Perl.

If you give us some examples we might be able to shine a brighter light ...
